Nokia strategy is “here is the hardware, now if you are able to find some utility for it, tell us”.

I must be old. I can't possibly be that old, but I must be because I'm about to say it. I remember a time... when the people who bought computers could find use for them without $100,000,000 marketing campaigns to tell them why they needed it and how to use it.

And I'm only 30. How times have changed.

Now, when a company releases a computer, a tiny computer that can even fit in a pocket, and they do it without a big marketing fanfare. The response? "What am I suppose to do with it?"

Actually, how times have stayed the same. Thinking back, I've heard people say that about computers for nearly as long as I've been using them.

Considering the production level Nokia introduced this device at, what they expected the sales volume to be, I don't think Nokia intended the 770 to be a mass market Joe Sixpack device. I think they simply made a geek toy, as odd as that may be in this "computers are for everybody" day and age.

I say Nokia's strategy for the 770 is: Here is the hardware, be creative and have fun. I know at least I certainly am. YMMV

I'm curios about who thinked the marketing strategy at Nokia, leaving people waiting indefinite amounts of time for their tablet. I reached the point that I wish for Nokia the same 'success' that xBox 360 had in Japan, following the same 'wise' philosophy : let'em wait,we're the best ... just plain stupid... I cancelled my order and bought an iPaq with WiFi... they can keep it and stick it. My next tool will be an OQO.

I was at CES. They did show the 770, and it generated a lot of interest.
