Update to my previous note. I called Nokia USA order center today, 6 January, and was told my order was still open “with an expectation of shipment within two weeks.” Since I was standing in a CompUSA with a clerk holding a 770 box right in front of my, I canceled my order with Nokia. the order center operator didn’t seem the least bit surprised.

I placed the order on 12/11/200. They claimed it would be shipped on Dec 30th.
On Jan 04 I went down to CompUSA yesterday and bought it there (Los Angeles, CA).
Left a message to cancel the order but still shows as “open”.

Mine finally shipped last night. Nokia called on the 28th to confirm the ship-to address. Order processed on Nov. 18th. Better late than never I suppose.

I placed an order 2 December. I just called today, 28 December, and was told my order should ship “by the 6th of January”.

We’ll see.

Today was the last day for three day shipping to have the 770 arrive by Friday, the day I leave for holiday for a week. As the day wore on, the possibility of receiving a tracking number diminished. :( However, now at 11:25 PM, I just got a tracking number! ETA is Friday! Woot! (Hopefully shipping/receiving at the office will still be open to receive it!)

Ordered: Nov. 18th
Confirmed: Dec. 8th
Shipped: Dec. 20th

Just an update to my comment above:

I received an email last night stating it has shipped. And it actually arrived today.

Thank you Nokia for beating your Dec 30 ship date and getting it to me by Christmas!

I won’t be openning it until Christmas though. It was shipped to my wife’s office.

Wow ordered in November and still not arrived..I applaud you’re patience. I ordered very Dec here in the UK from the UK site and no dice yet. Still worse the website has now changed to say delivers are starting in Jan rather than Dec! At least they are still claiming they will ship in the order the received orders, though it remains to be seen if that degenerates to the mess that happened Stateside.

As pointed out elsewhere whilst you expect a wait for new gear Nokia have dropped the ball very badly on reporting. Personally I think they may have deliberately only done an extremely limited initial manufacturering run to see what the demand was and are now screwed till well into the New Year. I switched from Nokia to Sony on phones and this isn’t making me feel any better about Nokia, at the very least they should be able to give fairly accurate delivery estimates even if its 1-3 weeks, rather than just saying we will ship it at some unknown time in the future.
