Hello, I have also installed the app and I haven’t had many problems with it, however there are a few concerns. When I load the calendar app, it tends to shutdown on its own. Sometimes I need to load it twice. As well, when I try to position the calendar on the main screen desktop, i get a blank box with no calendar display? an suggestions. Otherwise, this is a great project and it has a very user friendly interface. Nice icons, overall a great aesthetic appeal. cheers!

Hey guys. I recently purchased a 770 and have been able to install gaim, xterm, and other things on it. I have tried MILLIONS of times to install the GPE suite apps like calendar and todo, but they never work. When I try to install the seperate deb files that are provided via the link above, I get the error “package incompatible with current software” in Application Manager. Can you guys please help I have ITOS2006 3.2006.49-2.

There is no link above to the new releases for maemo2, Even the page of kernelconcepts don't link to it. This new release that can access remote calendar or publish in webdav is nice, but I would like to know if the calendar can be shared or is overwritten at each sync? The only doc that seems available is gpe-calendar Help

I am missing synchronisation, too. What about http://handhelds.org/~florian/multisync/gpe-multisync.txt – I have not tested it yet, because it requires nsqld on the Nokia 770 which is only available as ipkg-File. However according to the text a working working multisync plugin already exists.

I hate to sound like a broken record here, but the usability of the 770 would be greatly enhanced with the sync function in GPE-Calendar. Right now my GPE-Calendar is extremely buggy. For some reason, when I try to set up a recurring appointment at this one particular time, it won’t store recurrently. Since I’m not a Linux user on my home pc, I’m not sure what the SOP is with regard to bug-posts, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Your calendar etc. is fine. It works without any problems and it will be nice to have a synchronisation possibility. However, I have one problem. If I try to use the calendar in the to-do programme, it hangs and I have to stop the machine. The same problem exists in the contacts page. Here you can fill in a birthday with the help of calendar, but also there it hangs. But perhaps I do something wrong.

are improvements to this program being contemplated? after several attempts to get it running i finally updated the os and it runs well enough now that i think it has possibilites.
but.
^ the ‘icon’ which defines the appointment length are not in sync with the times to the left, and do not include the half hour segments.
^ when the first appointment ends on the same hour the second appointment begins on the ‘icon’ representing the appoinment time are half their normal widths.
^ alarms don’t work and
^ if you click on alarms you can’t get the calendar to load again until you reinstall the os.
^ notes which exceed the length of the full size window in the calendar can not be read in full, and can not be edited, or deleted, though the long notes can be read, up to certain length, in the view by week window
^ other than categories, descriptions, in detail windows, can not be accessed.
^ convertor needed to enable moving outlook, mozilla, other pda information into contacts database

Hi Nils,
just wanted to say thanks for the work so far, I can’t really agree with Armin’s opinion on the stability, your GPE packages were very solid so far, although I haven’t really used them all that much due to the lack of sync capabilities.

BTW, what’s the best place to report feedback and bug reports? (handhelds.org Bugzilla doesn’t even have a Nokia770 hardware category) And is there some way to get the most recent version from cvs/svn for testing, so that people could provide feedback?

Hi!
Your comment is quite disappointing for us.
Believe me, we are working quite hard on getting as many as possiblethings straight. Your instability comments concern me a lot since we have not yet had any of such reports yet!
The mass of needed packages to install is indeed not very nice. But the reason for this is twofold: First GPE comes from the Familiar distribution based PDAs which use ipkg as package management and installation system. Sencond those can install the depending packages automatically – the Nokia 770 package installer cannot.

Please try again with latest versions of GPE PIM apps and latest version of 770 software – there have been numerous bugs fixed which may solve many of your problems.

Concerning sync, we are working on it!We have a very promising approach using OpenSync now – not yet ready for distribution but not that far away.

The GPE-* applications on the 770 are absolutely dissapointing (GPE-contact, -todo, -calendar). Installation is a pain (too many packages – it looks like every single file comes in its own .deb), the apps are buggy, key features like sync are missing and they burn to many CPU cycles, they even destabilize the 770 when they fail to remove themselves on termination (had to be killed from xterm several times).

I deinstalled GPE-* and all these trailing libs – now my 770 is back to normal speed and stability.

My conclusion: GPE-* on the 770 is a nice demo, but unfit to trust real data to, or even to replace my old PDA.
